Originally this brass would have had a ceramic pot centre, that probably broke, the solder marks where it was attached are visible on the back. The owner then made up a new centre with a dome headed stud, a washer and shaped piece of brass that might have been part of a small door knob. The end result is quite charming, pity the back was not finished off so well.
